Are you involved in community engagement in a way that reflects our pillars of innovation and entrepreneurship, for instance? What types of initiatives have you created and implemented or with which you have been involved with implementation? This could include research-led community engagement or community-engaged teaching and learning. Tell us about your experiences, from a reflexive standpoint. Give us evidence of high impact societal and stakeholder community engagement as well as targeted internationalisation that helps accomplish our goals here at UKZN. How does your engagement with internal and external stakeholders empower people? This is what the IARP wants to know when addressing the 16 standards.
How do we monitor and review the implementation of the policies, procedures and activities that enable, for example, research-led community engagement and community-inclusive teaching and learning?
The IARP Manual (p. 7) provides that “community engagement should be specifically integrated with learning, teaching and research and should be based on and enhance the disciplinary knowledge and expertise of the institution”. Although we do not have a DVC for Community Engagement or College Deans for Community Engagement, we do have integrated community engagement in at least three ways – through research-led community engagement, community-enabled teaching and learning and through our Key Performance Area of Community Engagement in our performance management system. So please reflect upon your activities there and share that information with us, along with evidence of your activities.
